Golden baked cheese toast (岩烧乳酪吐司) was once a super popular type of street snack across China (not sure how to properly translate the name though). It consists of slice of toast topped with cream & cheese mixture and sliced almonds, baked to golden.
Such a simple guilty pleasure for anybody who has a sweet tooth like me. It is especially easy to make and dangerously delicious! Crunchy toast and almonds, sweet creamy cheesy top, who can really resist?
Ingredients (serves 1):
- 1 serving sliced bread
- 5-8 g butter
- 7 g sugar
- 15 ml whipping cream
- 5-10 g cheese*
- 5-10 g cream cheese
- 10 ml milk
- sliced almonds
*Most recipes require processed cheese slice, I used shredded mozzarella, don’t think there’s a big difference.
Instructions:
- Combine all the ingredients except sliced almonds in a bowl, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and microwave for 40 sec or until everything melts. Stir well.
- Place toast on a baking tray, spread cheese batter on toasts, top with sliced almonds, bake at 200 C.
- Bake for 8-15 min or until the top is golden.
Serve immediately when the toast is nice and hot.
Depending on how thick the toast is, it can be crispy throughout, or crunchy on the outside while soft inside, it’s all up to you.
Love the sweet, cheesy taste of this golden baked cheese toast. It might be high in calories and not healthy at all, but who cares? Gotta treat yourselves once in a while, right?
